Quantitative Precipitation Forecasts Added to the Map. And other small changes.

Quantitative precipitation forecasts (QPF) published by the National Weather Service have been added to the map. These forecast map layers are essentially the same map data that is displayed on the QPF page that you've probably used before. Two groupings of the QPF are available: individual days and cumulative. As you probably guessed, 'individual days' shows the amount of rainfall predicted for that particular day only. However, NOAA groups together day 4 - 5 and 6 - 7 which represents the amount of predicted rain for those two days. The cumulative layers show how much precipitation is expected to accumulate over the given time period.

Also new: text in the bottom-left corner of the map that displays when the Radar Precip Totals layer was last updated. As a reminder, those map layers are never routed through the Rain Pursuit server. Your browser obtains them directly from NOAA/NWS (same goes for the QPF layers and live NexRad radar). It's not very uncommon for the radar layers to stop updating. This new 'timestamp' helps you to determine if these radar layers are failing to update. Similarly these dates will display the time period that QPF layers represents, or "is valid for" as NOAA likes to say. The time zones used in these dates should be the same as your device's time setting (i.e., if your computer is set up to use the Eastern time zone, then the time displayed at the bottom of the map should also be in the Eastern time zone).

I've also removed the 'splash screen'/advertisement of my Obed Map from the map page. I still have plenty for sale: more info available here. If you're not into purchasing a map, you can still contribute some $$ to this fundraiser for AW. Contributing would be the best way to thank me for keeping RP a *free* resource for years!
