The Density Explorer


When asked to approve a proposed subdivision at 3.5 dwelling units per acre, County Commissioner Larsen Jay acknowledged that it can be difficult to visualize what a completed project at that density may look like. This problem surfaced repeatedly during several county commission meetings. To address these difficulties, I created The Density Explorer. This web application integrates several web technologies:

When the user clicks a subdivision, the ArcGIS Online feature service is queried to retrieve the photos that are stored as geodatabase attachments. It also queries a standard text field to retrieve the iFrame code that embeds the Google Street View frame in the carousel. To keep the application ‘on-brand’, I reused the fonts and colors developed by our Webmaster/Graphic Designer Josh Anderson.
